Seattle - Bathtub Gin

Seattle – Bathtub Gin

After a day of cruising the big city, we returned to Belltown and walked around the area. Just by mistake we came upon this plaque on a hotel building that was pretty interesting.

Had to check it out. Went around back and found the entrance to the Bathtub Gin & Co. but they were closed. Guess some people think 10am is too early to start drinking gin. Anyway, we decided to come back later and see what this was about.

Reminded us of what a speakeasy might have looked like back in the 1920’s. Took our place at a little table against the wall and ordered up, what else, gin and something. Collette had a drink called “Alaska” and I had a Blackwoods gin & tonic (recommended by the waitress). Pretty dang good so we thought what the hell, let’s try another. This time Collette ordered a Singapore Sling and I went with the recommended Smalls gin & tonic. Smalls gin is made in Oregon and doesn’t have quite the pine tree taste or smell of most gins. Highly recommended if you like gin.

Stumbled out of the pub and went straight to a little Italian restaurant, Lowell’s, for a great dinner. Not sure why but we ordered wine and enjoyed some of the best risotto ever. Guess I now know why they don’t open the gin bar before 5pm. Made it back to the hotel just in time to get a good nights’ sleep before the long drive to Wheeler, Oregon.

Tomorrow we be headin’ down the coast for a scenic drive to Wheeler.
