One last tour of Amsterdam
Up early this morning for our last day in Amsterdam. The ship departs from here at 1:30pm so we just have enough time to have breakfast and do a quick walkabout. Collette was really happy about being on the ship. With someone else doing the cooking, she finally got a break from feeding me!
Rachel mentioned she had read about places called “brown bars” here in Amsterdam. These are old bars (pubs) that once allowed smoking which discolored the wood inside. There isn’t any smell of cigarettes or smoke, just a discoloring of the wood. We thought we’d find one and warm up a bit.
Time to board our home for the next 8 days, the Scenic Jasper. Our room on the ship was a Balcony Suite with a glass enclosure around the balcony that can be lowered so you can enjoy the fresh air. Not necessary for this trip as the temp is around 300 and still a bit of rain.
The bed is a king size bed that was very comfortable. In Europe, most hotels and cruise ships (I guess), use duvets instead of blankets. These have been quite warm and really helps one fall asleep quickly. May want to think about getting these when we return home.
Our first meal on board, other than breakfast, was a nice lunch where I decided it was time to have a steak and fries. Collette decided on pasta and I think Walt & Rachel had pasta with some fruit on the side.
Another plus for Scenic Cruises is that they are “all inclusive” meaning that all drinks are included, all day, and gratuities are included. There is also a mini-bar in each stateroom that our cabin butler kept stocked with gin, rum, vodka, soft drinks, juices, and ice.
Nice to finally be cruising!
Leaving you with a few final pics of Amsterdam…
