On our way to Bratislava, Slovakia

And here we are in Slovakia. We departed Porto at 10am on RyanAir for Vienna, our transfer point to Bratislava, Slovakia. Not sure if we will take the bus or the train from Vienna, both are about the same travel time and the bus is about 25EUR cheaper.

Getting through Porto airport, Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, was easy and relatively quick. Probably spent 10 minutes going through security before heading to the nearest café for breakfast. Porto has been a lot of fun, plenty of sites to see and still more so we’ll have to make a return trip in the future. The only downside is the hills! Seems there are hundreds of them and almost no way to get around walking uphill.

Now off to Bratislava. We decided on the bus, $19.35 total for 2 seniors. Pretty good fare for an hours ride on a very comfortable bus. They even have charging stations for your phones and other electronics. What a bargain!

The ride was uneventful and soon we pulled into Most SNP, our final stop. “Most” means bridge in Slovakian and “SNP” is the “bridge” where Slovaks fought for their independence. Just happens to be 5 minutes from our apartment.

No sooner did we get off and watch the bus pull away that I noticed I left my phone connected to the charge point in the back of the seat. Damn! I’ll cut to the chase. After trying to run down the bus, not a chance, we went to the apartment and started looking up the bus company. Slovak Lines has an office here so we called and low and behold, they have a Lost & Found in Bratislava. And they have my phone!!! Now all we have to do is get there within 1hr because they close at 6pm. The race is on…

We arrive at Nivy station, located in a very large shopping mall, at 5:43pm. Now we just needed to find the bus station. After a bit of wandering and asking a few folks where the station was, we found it under the mall, Level -1. It’s now 5:53pm.

Went to the ticket window and the nice lady there spoke a bit of English so she called her associate over to bring the phone. I showed my ID and signed enough papers to buy a house and started our way back to the apartment.

Big lesson learned: never again will I put my phone in the back of a seat.

Had a vodka & orange (bought this at the airport) and called it a day.
