Off to Egypt- Land of the Pharaohs!
So, off on another adventure. This time to Egypt, Land of the Pharaohs. Getting out of Denver was easy enough, only one delay when someone in First Class crushed their seatbelt playing with the electric seat. Quick change out and on our way. Sort of. Had to stop in the holding pen by the runway while someone checked the paperwork on the repair. Now, 15 minutes later and 35 minutes behind schedule, off to Egypt, Land of the Pharaohs.
Short 9 hours to Frankfurt where we’ll catch our Egypt Air flight to Cairo. Not too bad in economy seats, little tight, bumped by every Kardasian sized trunk going by, but reasonable for the flight. Dinner was the usual, stir fried something over indestructible noodles and rubber chicken over black stuff. The wine with dinner was stellar, red wine served Skalisky style, nearly frozen, and white wine that Collette enjoyed. But, it was included in our $20K ticket price so no complaints. (Not really)
Landed in Frankfurt early morn and made our way to one of the airports greatest amenities, showers! For a mere 6Euro’s ($8USD), you get a hot shower, toiletries and a towel. For those with long locks, there is also a blow dryer (not heated). Great way to re-energize from the night flight.
Too bad Collette wasn’t there. You see a friend of ours said that Egypt was having a bread shortage and that we should take some flour with us to give to some deserving soul. Guess we should have kept it in the original packaging instead of trying to mule it with balloons. You know a 1# bag of flour fills 178 balloons. I couldn’t swallow more than 6 but Collette gave it her all and managed to get 10 down. The rest we scattered in our (her) suitcase. Not to worry, the nice people at immigration gave her some special elixir and wellah, 1 hour later, she rejoined me at the showers. She didn’t look happy and we don’t have any flour to give away.
Hey, it makes a good story. So, all showered and off to the nearest restaurant for a quick German lunch. I had hot dogs with potato salad and Collette went with curry chicken, all for the low, low price of $50USD. Good thing we don’t eat in an airport very often.
Next flight is to Cairo where we’ll land around 7:30pm and Uber to our hotel, the Marriott Mena hotel. Long day but soon it will be over.
Till tomorrow, maa samaty.
