Ferry to Cagliari, Sardinia

After a 4-hour drive to Naples from Bari, it was time to find our ferry building and check in for tonight’s ferry. This is a 15-hour ferry ride, overnight, that gets us in to Cagliari around 10am. We booked a superior double stateroom for the ride, packed our own food and adult beverages, and of course, our standard set of games, dice, cards, etc.

Loading on the ferry was an absolute mess. All the vehicles staged at an off-site parking which meant we had to weave in and out of normal traffic to get to the dock. Once there, it was chaos, cars going everywhere, trucks, campers all trying to get in line, totally unorganized. And once you’re on the ship, the chaos continued with several people giving directions on where to park and how close to the walls and cars. The only common thing was the constant yelling of “faster”.

Parked the hot rod, grabbed our stuff and headed for our stateroom. Enough of this madness. The only thing is that tomorrow morning, it’s going to be worse with everyone trying to get off as fast as possible.

The stateroom was awesome. Large king bed with a sitting area, refrigerator, TV, private bathroom with shower, and two large windows. The room was located at the bow of the ship so the view leaving port and arriving should be good.

Lounge complete with disco lighting

That’s just not enough so I added two eggs, toast and bacon! We brought our backpacks with us so after breakfast we just stayed in the lounge and waited for the announcement to start our engines.

Getting off the ferry was much better organized than getting on. Drivers were called to go to their cars by level, we were on level 1, last to be called. Drove off and made our way to the city of Pula, just about 20-minutes’ drive from Cagliari, to see the ancient city on Nora. After seeing this site we’ll drive to our rental home in Costa Rei. A little community that is all about the beach and not high on the tour list. Time to relax.
