Embassy Work
We were just kicking back the other day and thought it might be fun to do part-time work at US embassies around the world. If you’re already going to be in a country for 6 months or so, there might be an opportunity to earn a little cash while having the experience of a new culture, so I started to look into it. Google searched on US embassy jobs and well-a, there were several listed that Collette and I would qualify for. There was one opening for a document control clerk that is right up Collette’s alley. The only problem was it was located in Western Africa, not on the top ten list right now. The one listed next was a room attendant, which I took to read as a “protocol officer” someone who arranges meetings, refreshments, makes sure everyone is seated in correct placement, etc. This one I thought I could do given my past experience in running working groups. The problem with this opportunity wasn’t location but the embassy itself. This opening was with Embassy Suites and room attendant was exactly that, cleaning rooms. Not sure I’m qualified for the position. After this brief search and discussing the findings we decided to stop drinking wine before 3pm, well at least not a whole bottle.
