Back to Galway
On the road again. Time for us to leave Blarney and make our way to Galway. Mostly via motorway, our trip takes about 2.5hrs with a little better scenery. Once in Galway we used Carmen the Garmin (our GPS) to find Marless House B&B. Pretty easy drive and the B&B had ample off street parking so time to check in and get to our rooms.
Tom and Mary Geraghty are the owners of Marless House and the perfect couple for a B&B. From the time you arrive until you leave you feel more like family than customers. Tom does the cooking while Mary does the smoozing, and she’s quite good at it. This is what a B&B should be like. Those of you out there running B&B’s should take a lesson from Mary and Tom, they have this down to a science. The rooms are clean, beautiful, well-appointed and comfortable. The sitting room is comfortable as well and has plenty of room for all the guests to gather. The food, absolutely delicious and never ending! The breakfast menu was a full page of hot and cold selections in addition to the buffet of cereals, fruits and drinks. Tasty, made to order and plenty of it! A room here, including a wonderful breakfast, will cost 35-45EU per person/ per night, very reasonable.
We went into town and had drinks before heading to dinner. Because it was early, around 630pm, there aren’t a lot of pubs with music. Mary told us about one called Tis Coilt (try to pronounce this one yourself) that did have music and drinks. Seeing that this pub filled the basic human needs, we settled in for some tunes and pints.
But man cannot live on beer alone, although some have tried, so off to dinner. The Pedestrian District of Galway is littered with pubs and restaurants making the selection a bit hard for a group of 5. We settled on Trattoria Magnetti for some genuine Italian food. Yeah I know, Italian food in Ireland, well it was actually pretty good.
We strolled around the city for a little longer then headed back to Marless House to catch up on our sleep. Tomorrow we drive!
