Time to come home

After trying to stick this out in Morocco, we have decided to come back to the US. Morocco helped us make this decision when they closed all markets, public sites, restaurants, cafes, etc.  That was yesterday at 6pm.

Today, they expanded the safety precautions to include a 6pm curfew for all Moroccans, guess tourists can stroll around the empty Medina or not. We’ve chosen to stay inside and blog.

So here is the story as of today. Last night we booked a flight on RyanAir to go from Morocco to Dublin, Ireland on Sunday. We then booked a flight on United Airlines from Dublin to Denver for Monday, 23 Mar 20. All was good.

This morning RyanAir changed all that by canceling the flight they sold us last night. Yes, they did offer a refund but that is no consolation. Now we need to find a flight from Morocco to Dublin in time to make our United flight on Monday.

After several hours of searching, we found a flight from Rabat, Morocco (the Capitol) to Madrid, then on to Dublin, Saturday, 21 Mar 20. The only issue is we have not been able to confirm seats on the Iberia flight to Madrid, but we do have a ticket confirmation.

So, now we need to get to Rabat before our flight which means we will need to take a taxi / car hire on Friday and get a room for the night.

As for the “help” being offered by the US Embassy – non-existent! We called the consulate last night and got a recording saying they were closed for the night (4:45pm) and if this is an emergency, leave a message or call the duty officer. Tried reaching them this morning and got a recording that informed us to go to the website unless this was an emergency. If this is an emergency call another number, then we were disconnected.

Reminds me of the “help” offered during 911, non-existent!

Enough bitching, going back to searching for a room in Rabat and hopefully traveling to Dublin this weekend.
