Sedona Roadtrip
Know what’s better than renting a villa in Sedona…..having friends that rent a villa in Sedona!!! Mary and Jerry Edwards, good friends for many years, rented a nice two bedroom villa in Sedona Summit Resort. Only about 1.5hrs from Scottsdale so not a long drive and besides it gives us another city to see in Arizona.
Headed north about 10am for our drive to Sedona. Nice roads, as usual here, so the only thing to watch for is the Arizona drivers. Damn those folks are fast! They are so concerned about not being first, they just can’t do the speed limit. As a result most of them usually are the first to arrive……at the accident! Can’t really blame them for speeding, we’ve seen numerous highway patrol vehicles either speeding past us or sitting along side the road just checking out the scenery. We even saw a Sheriffs car being tailed by a SUV doing well over 70mph when the limit was 65mph. Of course, they have Arizona plates so not something we out-of-staters should try! Note: traffic deaths in Arizona rose to 962 in 2016, almost 3 people per day! Most common type of accident, yep – rear end collisions!
Meanwhile, back on the road to Sedona, the Misses and I take in the changing scenery. Scottsdale has very different rock formations and mountains than northern Arizona. The landscape around our rental home is arid, lots of cactus, rocks and scrub brush. Heading to Sedona, the cactus disappear and trees start to become more prevalent. The mountains change to more brush and tree covered and the temp starts to cool off. A very welcome change.
We arrived at the resort just in time for a quick drive through town and then lunch. The Arizona Latin Inspired Grill was our selection for lunch and was excellent. The views were incredible and the food, very tasty. Drinks weren’t bad either!
Wrapped up an excellent lunch and then got the nickel tour of the Sedona area by Jerry and Mary. Having been there a few times before, they were the perfect guides pointing out the various rock formations (Snoopy, Tea Pot, Stubby) and taking us into some canyons with gorgeous vistas. Nice drive in some very beautiful country but hey, we’re not here just for the beauty. Where’s the wine?????
Just so happens Sedona has a huge wine shop with over 300 bottles of everything from French and South American to California wines. Now we can relax…….. Hit the place right at happy hour and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and even better conversation. Its times like these that you wonder with such good friends, why don’t you see each other more often? Life gets in the way, so enjoy the company while you can, and we did.
Finished our touring, eating and drinking and headed back to the villa to enjoy the sunset, more laughing and conversation. Great time in Sedona.
