Home in Arid-zona….Fellin’ hot, hot, hot……
Beautiful Arid-zona….. Ah, yes! Just a mild 107F by 3pm but like everyone says, “It’s a dry heat”. Think about that. Dry heat cooking is typically called a convection oven, not a vacation destination!!!
So we’re here. Arrived just in time to check in to the house but encountered the cleaning crew so we decided to have a late lunch and do a little grocery shopping. The shopping plaza is about 5 minutes from the house so very convenient and has several restaurants along with a Safeway grocery store. Perfect!
A bit a bout Arizona. Joined the Union in 1912 as the 48th state (last one of the contiguous states-thought it was a trend) and has about 400 miles of shared border with our Mexican friends. It also shares the border of the Grand Canyon with a few of the other south western states. Our casa is just outside the capital city of Phoenix located in north Scottsdale, named after the founder Winfield Scott in 1894. Scottsdale is a rather large community with a 2015 population estimated around 240,000. I’m sure once the blue-hairs arrive that number doubles!
Back to the house….After a small lunch of buffalo shrimp and wine (oh yeah!) hit up Safeway and onward to the house. The home is about 3100sq.ft., 3-bedroom, 4-bath, a den, 2 large living areas and built in typical south-west style. There’s a nice size backyard with an Arizona necessity, a pool!
First things first, unpack, glass of wine, hit the pool!!! Actually, we always check our rental homes out first thing to make sure everything works and nothing is broken or missing. This one has a few minor items, carpets need cleaning, one of the shower heads needs to be replaced, needed a larger pot for pastas or corn, etc. but nothing is a show-stopper. Now, unpack, wine and pool!
We’ll hit the market again tomorrow after we inventory the spices and supplies at the house. Stan, Carrie and Bob are arriving late tomorrow afternoon so we need to have margaritas and snacks ready.
Oops. Almost forgot one of the journeys highlights….4 corners. For just $5 we got the opportunity to stand on the marker noting where 4 states converge. WOW!
