A Farewell to Reims

Time for us to take off for Paris but not before we take another look at Reims. This is probably the smallest town we’ve stayed in during this trip but still a medium size town with ~320,000 inhabitants. It has a small town feel! It has all the usual French sites, a cathedral (Notre Dame de Reims), pedestrian shopping district complete with light rail trains, a basilica, couple of forts and a palace. We visited a few but our time was limited so we left a few things to see next time.

BTW- ever wonder why all the cathedrals in France are named, “Notre Dame”? Sure you have. Well, its because translated Notre Dame translates to “Our Lady”, a simple form of honoring the Holy Mother Mary. So the translation would be Our Lady of (name the city).

One unique fact about Reims is that it is the traditional site where all French Kings have been crowned.
