Found it! “The Falls Resort Hotel”

As luck would have it, the Falls Hotel was just across the street from the restaurant. Not sure how we missed it on the way in but glad we did, the plane story was pretty neat. Parked El Haut Rod out front and checked in. Very nice place, grounds are well manicured, lots of different plant species and an al fresco dining area with bar just off the pool. Our room was nice as well. Best thing was the air conditioner, on and running at a nice 64F!  With the outside temp around 98F and better than 70% humidity, the room felt great! Usual hotel stuff but this one had a king bed with a huge mosquito net above it. We didn’t plan to leave the windows open so the netting was just ornamental.

IMG_5280 (2)Relaxed for a few minutes then changed into our swimwear to enjoy the pool and maybe a cocktail (or two). Found a couple of chairs out of the sun then hit the pool. Ugh! Got out of the pool as fast as I got in. Unbelievably hot, more like a Jacuzzi than a pool. Pass.

Moseyed (it’s OK to mosey, we’re retired) up to the bar and ordered a couple of daiquiris from Gerardo. Very pleasant young man who had pretty good English so I didn’t have to stumble too much ordering. That came after the third drink!

Relaxed the rest of the afternoon and decided to just have dinner at the hotel, Trip Advisor has it rated #3 in town so why not. While sitting outside our room enjoying a glass of wine, one of the other guests walked by and asked if we had seen the sloth across the street. No, but we’re going to! Grabbed the cameras and hustled over to the street where a three-toed sloth was sleeping, hanging from a telephone line. He didn’t seem to mind the crowd but decided to move along after a few minutes.

Back to the hotel for dinner. I had tried steak on several occasions this trip and resigned myself to the fact that ribeye, filet and New York cuts mean something different down here as does rare, medium and well. After La Fortuna, I swore off steaks and decided I was a chicken man while here. Must have been the small print or the drinks but I completed missed that the tenderloin that I ordered was a beef tenderloin, not pork. Collette ordered her usual, some kind of fish with a sauce (sea bass with chutney sauce- actually looked pretty tasty). Turns out both meals were great, best steak I’ve had in Costa Rica and Collette’s endangered fish was pretty good too.

Endangered but ever soooo tasty

After what was probably the best meal we’ve had during our time here in CR, we strolled (typical retiree walking style) back to the room just in time to see the ending of the Republican Town Hall. Did you know that a mosquito net will not filter out political crap! Just had to turn off the TV and get ready for tomorrows adventure to Manuel Antonio Reserve.
