Koshari for lunch

On our way to the next site, our guide Sabry suggested we stop for a quick lunch. He recommended that we stop at Abou Tarek for a bowl of traditional koshari, it’s the only dish this restaurant serves. Sounded like a good idea to us so we tried it. Pretty good food! Since this is the only dish served at this restaurant, the service was fast and the price was right, $1.82USD including 3 bottles of water!

The dish consists of pasta noodles, spaghetti noodles, lentils, rice, and chickpeas mixed with a tomato-hot spice sauce, and topped with crispy onions. Pretty darn tasty and quick. In and out of there in less than 20 minutes.

BTW- if you don’t think serving a single dish is a good idea for a restaurant, check out his building. Seven floors tall serving this one dish and standing room only at lunch time, everyday!
