Sandringham Estate – Jeeves, pull the car around please.

Somewhere around 1862, Sandringham Estate was purchased for Edward VII when he was a wee lad known as the Duke of Wales. Ever since this home has been THE place for royalty. Queen Elizabeth II has used this estate as her Christmas / Winter get-away cottage since the 1950’s. Situated on 20,000 acres approximately 100 miles from London, Sandringham Estate is owned by the Queen as one of her two private residences, the other being Balmoral Castle.

Today we are going to a Christmas fair located just outside the Queen’s estate. Over 200 vendors along with music and wood carving entertainers, food, and close to a million people and their dogs. What a day it will be! Oh, and it rained all day yesterday so just a touch of mud.

Actually, made it inside with relative ease. Parked the car and had a short walk to the gates, whipped out the ole GBP’s, paid the ferryman and inside in no time. Lots of people out today. Sun is shining, no rain and warmer than the last few days, somewhere in the mid-50’s. Brings the Brits out faster than free mushy peas!

IMG_8820 (2)Took about 2 hours to stroll through the vendor tents and watch a little chain saw carving. Does make a person hungry so we’re heading back to our humble abode for lunch and some relaxation. I need to put Collette to bed with a cold compress, she’s having charge card withdrawals.

Next we head for the south-western coast and a small town called, “Cockington”.  Collette’s sister Betsy, and her daughter, Jessie, arrive Friday so we’ll have some company for the last 12 days of our adventure. Both Betsy and Jessie are great travelers so this should be a lot of fun.

That’s it for today. Good night, and good luck.
