Goodbye Bangkok, Hello Chiang Mai (pronounced: ”she ong my”)
Joe dropped us off at the airport and we said our goodbyes and thanks for a great tour. Certainly would recommend him to anyone visiting Bangkok, great tour guide at a reasonable price.
Chiang Mai is located in the northern mountains of Thailand and will be our jumping off point for our journey to Chiang Rai (pronounced: “she ong ray”). Chiang Mai means, “new city” and was named so after it replaced the capital city of Chiang Rai in 1296. This “walled” city has several well-known temples that we’ll see, the most famous being Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep that we’ll visit tomorrow.
First, check in to our hotel for the night and then get ready to go on another tour, this time it’s a street food tour! The hotel, Pingviman Hotel, is absolutely beautiful and our rooms are perfect. We reserved suites with a balcony (porch) and direct access to the pool. Accented with native woods and plenty of mosaic tile, this is a very traditional styled Thai hotel.

Checked in and decided to wander the streets a bit before having lunch. We saw a lot of temples during our stay in Bangkok, but there are a couple here that we needed to check out.

And we thought it was hot in Bangkok! Ugh! Quick walkabout and head for air conditioning and lunch!
Did a short walk back to the hotel to enjoy a little pool time before our evening food tour.
